Mind / Food Connection Inspires Kingston Professional Workshop

Mental health professionals invite clinical ecologist to inform staff of researched connections between food allergies, food addictions, and psychological disorders.

October 25, 2005 -- Thursday, October 27th, Ulster County Mental Health Association has invited nationally renowned Nutritionist and “Mind/Food” expert Dr. Allan Sachs, D.C.M, C.N to be a keynote speaker at its New Paltz office.

Dr. Sachs will be giving a presentation to the professional staff of Ulster County Mental Health to acquaint therapists with an innovative approach to combining traditional mental health therapy with nutritional and environmental support. Dr. Sachs believes that “during mental health treatment various indications might point to the need for diet and lifestyle change”.

Dr. Sachs is a highly sought after speaker whose 28 years of critical research and insight suggest that food addictions/allergies, carbohydrate intolerance, excessive sugar consumption and environmental factors such as mold can exacerbate text book mental health symptoms related to depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorders. Dr. Sachs confirms that “metabolic imbalances created by food and environmental intolerances can severely and adversely affect the successful outcome of mental health treatment programs”. Dr. Sachs emphasizes that “from my own research I feel that patients who receive simultaneous mental health and nutritional support can have enhanced benefits and success.”

Dr. Sachs is an advocate of universally changing the public’s mindset about food and eating habits. His practice encourages a more natural, individual approach to wellness which includes elimination of certain food and environmental allergens while introducing foods which support well functioning, healthy body systems.

Dr. Sachs has been a holistic health care practitioner in the Hudson Valley since 1978. He holds degrees in psychology, clinical nutrition, and chiropractic sciences. He is available to do presentations regarding the body mind connection to both professional and lay groups, schools, and other organizations wishing to more fully understand the connection between food and behavior. He lived and practiced in Woodstock, New York from 1978 through 1999. He currently lives and practices in Red Hook, New York.
